The FoodSaver V2840, for the most part, does as it claims. It does a great job at sealing and vacuuming and the process is effortless. With the removable and dishwasher-safe drip tray, clean up and maintenance is a breeze. The appliance is well-built and sturdy. Once you've owned one of these machines, it's hard to go without. These are the pros.
The cons. More of an annoyance than anything is the size of the appliance. This has always been an issue with all FoodSaver's full-size models. The appliance is large and cumbersome and takes up too much precious counter space. It appears that Tilia acknowledged this problem and tried to remedy it by adding the flip-up feature. Even in the upright position, the appliance still looks imposing. I commend them for their effort nonetheless.
Another common problem users have experienced is with the two gaskets, one on the underside of the lid and one on the base. The gaskets start to wear out with repeated use and fail to make a complete seal. Some users have fixed the problem by removing the gaskets and washing and soaking them in warm soapy water. This usually does the trick and returns the FoodSaver to brand new working condition. For those who have tried this method but couldn't repair the gaskets, replacement gaskets are available from the manufacturer for $1 plus shipping for the pair.
